Switchman's Diversion Frog Conference Table
The frog sits at a point in a switch where the two inside rails intersect. Distinguished from other track structures by its foreshortened X-shape, the massive chunk of steel resembles the long back legs and short front legs of its amphibian namesake.
The details of this artifact are simply astounding - from the brand of the Illinois Steel Company still visible along the web of the rail to the various deep gouges and heavy flow on the head of the rail where trains have spent a century reshaping the steel.
Frogs this size are increasingly rare, so don't lmiss the train.
