Cherry Timber Double Track Coffee Table
A solid cherry timber sets this coffee table apart from our usual collection of fine furniture.
Seriously, you expect cherry in fine homes and luxury offices, but relegated to the railroad tracks?
While we know that the railroad will make a crosstie out of any hardwood, we're always taken aback when the more rare species arrive.
We kept this gorgeous hunk of wood natural. It is and will remain creosote free, and we finished it with a clear eco-friendly oil to allow the UV to darken the wood naturally over time.
How did we wind up with a cherry railroad timber?
We use "culls" or imperfect timbers removed from the treatment process at the tie plant. That's part of our commitment to sustainably sourced materials that we use in our furniture.
Using our classic Double Track design allowed us to really showcase the natural beauty of the cherry wood with all of its character.
What's Double Track?
Sections of railroad that offer two lines parallel to one another are called double track. Found in urban and rural areas alike, the practice of double tracks allows trains to pass along side of one another in opposite direction or allows increased traffic in a single direction.
The heavy distress in the wood timber and the steel rails attests to the long service life and harsh conditions of the raw materials we use.
For the home, this piece goes well in the den or great room. In the office, it brings a bit of industrial style to any lobby.
