Description
Simple. Not easy.
Two lines of rail. One idea executed with discipline.
The Double Track Coffee Table distills railroad construction down to its essentials—steel rail and solid timber ties—arranged in a clean, parallel form that feels both engineered and inevitable. The design has remained untouched since its introduction over fifteen years ago in our original collection of industrial furniture. Nothing about it needed improving.
In true double track fashion, where trains move in opposing directions on parallel lines, the rails are set with deliberate restraint—elevated and suspended in quiet tension above a thick, honest wood beam. Order. Balance. Function made visible.
One rail carries a partial CARNEGIE brand—CARNEG…—a cropped remnant of the Carnegie steel legacy, still legible enough to signal its origin, still honest enough to leave the rest to history. A significant fragment of the American railroad supply chain—manufacture, movement, time.
The timber is naturally creosote-free—selected for preservation, not shortcuts. Eco-conscious in practice, not in slogan.
Some will see echoes of the Arts and Crafts tradition—Stickley, Gustav Stickley, the long shadow of hand-built permanence. They’re not wrong. But this is rail, not furniture pretending to be rail.
It works in two worlds at once: to most, a restrained industrial coffee table with strong lines and simple geometry. To those who know track work, it reads differently. A familiar language, reduced to form.
Each piece carries a recovered date nail—cleaned, reset, preserved. A small artifact from the right-of-way, placed back into service where it belongs.
